LA a great city to learn Spanish in. So many people speak Spanish in LA that is is easy to practise with native speakers – Just under 50% of the population of LA are Latino or Hispanic! Not really surprising in a city with a Spanish name – ‘Los Angeles’, ‘The Angels’.
There a number of ways you can go about learning Spanish in LA. The first is to find classroom-based lessons at one of LA’s many Spanish language academies, your second choice is to learn from a home-study course.
Students often discover that in LA’s Spanish schools, the teachers have to divide their attention and time between many students and do not give that much personal attention to individual students. Also, the pace of the classes always slows down so that the slowest students could keep up, which can be unfair on students who want to study at a faster speed. This situation is unfortunately unavoidably in LA’s Spanish academies as teachers have an obligation to give as much attention to each student as they need, and slower students need more attention.
If you do decide to learn in one of LA’s Spanish academies, try and make sure you investigate the academies before hand and check they have a policy of keeping classes going at a fast speed, this usually means removing students who do not keep up, or do not attend regularly.
Your second option is to learn from a good Spanish home-study course. There are many good Spanish schools in LA, but there are also many excellent home-study Spanish courses available today. These courses are a fraction of the price and allow you to study in your own time and comfort. You can do lessons at home or as you travel to and from work every day!
